When to Test Hearing

Your child's hearing can be tested at any age and, if you suspect a hearing loss, the sooner you test the better. That's because hearing is an essential tool for learning speech and the most critical period for this learning is between birth and three years. Some hearing problems (such as ear infections) are temporary and can be cured with medication, however others are permanent and will require your child to be fitted with hearing aids. The earlier you are able to determine this for certain, the better it is for your child's speech, language, social and academic development.
