Causes of Hearing Loss

There are three main types of hearing loss: conductive, sensorineural and mixed. Each type affects a different part of the ear and has a variety of causes. Hearing loss may be the result of aging, excessive accumulation of ear wax, ear infections, exposure to loud noise, certain medications and damaged inner ear structures. Hearing Healthcare Professionals usually describe types of hearing loss by degrees.

If you suspect you may have a hearing loss, talk to a hearing healthcare professional. You can also read more about the symptoms of hearing loss or take our self-hearing test.
