Laurie Hergott

Laurie Hergott has had a hearing loss for almost as long as she can remember. After trying to wear hearing aids for two years, she finally gave up because environmental noise, whistling and wind noise became unbearable. Because of her particular hearing loss, some sounds were often amplified too much resulting in frequent headaches and in other situations, not enough amplification meant constant frustration.

Listening to children posed one of the greatest challenges since children tend not to annunciate and define their words making Laurie's reliance on lip reading nearly impossible.

Laurie feels that she can focus in on sounds more effectively. She used to find background noise draining and often resorted to removing herself entirely from these types of situations.
